The Amazing Life of Chevaliere D'Éon

The Amazing Life of Chevaliere D'Eon is a local trans history project in collaboration with the Royal Armouries Museum and Luna Morgana, with consultation from Dr Kit Heyam.

This zine is about the life of notorious 18th Century trans woman spy, soldier, writer and sword-mistress Chevaliere D'Eon.

This is a pilot project funded and supported by Leeds 2023 and National Lottery Heritage Fund, which will be continued and expanded on for February 2023 as part of Leeds 2023's Hidden Histories project.royalarmouries.org/stories/hidden-histories/chevaliere-d-eon-sword/

There is little record of D'Eon that has been written by transgender people, so using the sword housed in the armouries Luna embarked on research to interpret D'Eon's life in a transgender way. At the end of that research period Luna ran a workshop where members and service users of Non-Binary Leeds and TransLeeds were invited to create pages for and contribute to the zine.

The pilot project was reviewed by Ezekiel Foster-Eardley on the Royal Armouries Museum's Stories section.

The cover illustration was designed by Kit George Art.

The zine is available as a free downloadable PDF via the Royal Armouries Museum's website or by clicking the button here:
